The strength of Israeli cinema
will be demonstrated throughout
late-August when the Australia
Israel Cultural Exchange
presents 25 feature films,
documentaries and shorts for the
2014 Israeli Film Festival. Palace
Electric Cinema is hosting the
event, which will show a variety
of contemporary films from
Tuesday, August 19, to Sunday,
The festival, the only
Australia-wide showcase for
Israeli film, is in its 11th year,
and has diversified to feature not
only award-winning films,
including Sweets, nominated for
seven Israeli Academy Awards,
but documentaries and also film
shorts. Cannes Camera d'Or
winner, feature film Self Made,
will open the festival, telling the
story of two women -- one Israeli
and one Palestinian -- trapped in
their respective worlds until a
bizarre mix-up of their identities
at the border. Directed by Shira
Geffen, the film explores themes
of identity and politics. Chairman
of the Australia Israeli Cultural
Exchange, Albert Dadon, says
he's impressed with the line-up
of films on offer.
"We have been spoiled for
choice this year," Mr Dadon said.

on at Palace Electric Cinemas,
New Acton, from August 19 to
August 31. Cost from $15 with
festival multi-passes available.
