The final touches are being made to an Australia
Day event combining the country s hottest
music and art at the National Portrait Gallery.
The gallery will bring Triple J s hottest 100
together with a hottest 10 portraits as voted by
the public, for the very first time, from noon to
Program co-ordinator Katrina Osborne said
staff had always been interested in celebrating
Australia Day in a relaxed fashion.
"We thought we ve got a fabulous collection
filled with really interesting and diverse
Australians so let s create a backyard
environment to listen to some music and kind of
kick back and have a look at some good looking
Australians, she said.
One of the gallery s spaces will be set up as
a backyard -- ice-cream and drinks will be
served throughout the day and a host of
backyard games and activities will take place.
Ms Osborne said the biggest drawcard of the
event promised to be the top 10 portraits.
"The staff at the portrait gallery have chosen
close to 200 good looking people in the
collection and we will be asking people who
attend the day to choose their top 10, she said.
"At the end of the event we ll be counting
down the hottest 100 with what people have
deemed the top 10 best looking people in the

"Our portrait of Nick Cave is a complete
winner, she said. I d say it is becoming an
iconic feature of the gallery.
Deborah Mailman is also a beautiful portrait
that people just fall in love with.
They fall in love with the texture of her skin
and her smile -- it is a really welcoming image.
Voters will also be in with a chance to win a
portrait prize pack drawn on the day.

Fitzharris not after minister role
Meegan Fitzharris was officially announced as
the newest member of the ACT Legislative
Assembly by ACT Electoral Commissioner
Phillip Green on Friday.
The Labor MLA for Molonglo replaces
former Chief Minister Katy Gallagher who
resigned in December from her role to contest
an ACT Senate seat.
Ms Fitzharris has ruled herself out of a
ministry position when caucus meets to elect a
new minister next week ahead of a cabinet
Certainly I do have future ambition to be a
minister one day but that s in the hands of
caucus and the chief minister, but in the
meantime I ve got plenty to do, she said.
Ms Fitzharris is a former Attorney-General s
Department public servant, a mother-of-three
and a Gungahlin resident.
The suburb has a fast growing population of
more than 50,000 and Ms Fitzharris is the only
MLA from Canberra s northern-most district.
At the 2012 ACT election she won 2626
primary votes on the Labor ticket, out-polling
Attorney-General Simon Corbell by about 700
Ms Fitzharris is considered a strong
campaigner and effective manager of staff,
having worked as a chief-of-staff for Andrew
Barr since the 2012 election.
Ms Fitzharris voiced strong support for the
Capital Metro light rail and said it would bring
greater public transport options for those along
the Civic to Gungahlin route.
I m looking forward to learning and talking
to people in the community, both local residents
and also local business owners, particularly in
the town centre, about their view on it, she
Mr Barr said Ms Fitzharris new role was a
chance for Gungahlin to have its voice heard in
debates about the city s future.
